How do you select a roof replacement company? Before you choose the first company on an internet search, let’s talk about how you can make sure you’re hiring a licensed professional who will complete the work on time and on budget.

- Check ratings and complaints. Even if your neighbor recommends a roofing contractor that they like, check the Better Business Bureau website and their Google reviews. These sites provide ratings, complaints, and reviews so you know if your contractor is legitimate and does what they say they will do.
- Verify licensing. Sadly not every business that says they are licensed is actually licensed. Protect yourself when you verify licensing with the Nevada Contractors Board. Unlicensed contractors are not required to pay licensing fees, do not have a bond to protect their work, and often do not purchase liability or worker compensation insurance. While their bid may come in lower, they are a higher risk for you. If they fall off your roof or otherwise get injured on your property, the liability is on you. When you work with a licensed roofing contractor, they are required to have safety measures in place and their insurance protects you from liability.
- Ask for a copy of workers’ compensation and liability insurance. Then verify with state agencies that the insurance is valid. Just because someone shows you a piece of paper, doesn’t mean they are a legitimate business with the proper insurance; that’s on you to verify.
- Request an estimate in writing. When you select a roof replacement company, be sure to get an estimate in writing. Understand what they’ve promised. Should they not deliver what they say, you want to be able to prove what they said they’d do. Don’t take a verbal or handshake agreement and never pay in full upfront. It’s just too risky for you.
- Avoid storm chasers. If someone is knocking on your door telling you there is roof damage after a big storm, thank them and then call us for an inspection. Many of these so-called storm chasers aren’t legitimate businesses and they don’t have your best interests in mind. We do.
